Did you know about the Texas Solar Incentives?
- TXU Renewable Buyback Plan: Earn money by selling the extra power your solar panels produce to TXU Energy.
- Solar Rebates: Texas utility companies are currently offering solar rebates that will help you earn money from your system. The companies include Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative, Garland Power and Light, the City of Sunset Valley, CPS Energy, and Austin Energy. Austin Energy offers rebates for as much as $2,500, as well as Austin Energy’s Value of Solar Tariff. This gives $0.097 for each kilowatt-hour, kWh, your panels produce. Not an Austin Energy customer? That’s okay, CPS Energy’s rebate will pay you up to $1.20 per watt of solar panels on your roof.
- Solar Rights Laws: In Texas, private property owner’s associations like the HOA can’t interfere with the solar panels on your home or prevent you from installing.
- State Property Tax Exemption: Installing a solar system in your home will increase the value of your home. However, Texas has an exemption that keeps the increase free from state taxation.
- Net Metering: While Texas doesn’t have a state-wide net metering system, there are utility companies within the state offering compensation for energy production. These include Green Mountain Energy, El Paso Electric, CPS Energy, and the City of Brenham.
- Federal Solar Tax Credit (ITC): Installing a solar system on your home means you gain access to a 26% exemption on the purchase.
