A lot goes into deciding where you want to live. You want somewhere with a strong economy, lots to do and with a climate you enjoy. But perhaps the most important consideration to make is to move to one of the safest cities in America.

While even those in safe places should still be okay with paying the cost of installing a security system, as they can provide great peace of mind, there is no doubting it can often feel better to live in a safe place. But which cities are among the safest?

While there are some relatively small towns that are very safe, we have decided to look more at medium to large cities that offer great safety to their residents. With that in mind, let’s go over some of the safest cities in America.

Frisco, Texas

Located just outside of Dallas, Frisco is a great place to live for families who want somewhere safe. It’s property crime rate is low, and hardly any violent crime takes place there either. You can feel safe walking down just about any street in Frisco, even late in the day.

The safety of the city is one of the reasons it is the fastest-growing city in the USA over the last decade. It also features great weather, strong school districts, a bustling economy and several other desirable things.

Portland, Maine

While it is a little smaller in terms of population than the others on this list, the largest city in the state of Maine certainly deserves a spot. The crime rate is incredibly low, with 2.43 people per 1,000 being victims to a crime. When it comes to property crime, the rate is around 0.65 per 1,000 people. While the whole state of Maine is 1.15 people per 1,000.

These numbers are both well under the national average, and are only going lower. Education is strong in the area, and the economy is healthy with an active job market for those looking to move to the city and enjoy quieter living.

Boise, Idaho

For many years now, Boise has appeared on several lists for one of the highest qualities of living in the USA. It is a fast-growing place, with low unemployment and a ton to do and see. Despite all of this, the city has been able to remain a safe and relatively crime-free place. It is great to raise a family, move to as a retiree or even as a place to move for a young professional.

Many similarly sized areas of the country experience a lot more crime, and don’t have as much to offer residents as Boise. It is perfect for the person who likes the outdoors and wilderness, but also likes access to an urban center and all of the related amenities, as well.

Irvine, California

While some areas of California struggle with crime, that is not the case in Irvine. For many years in a row, Irvine has continued to be one of the safest cities in America of its size. In particular, the rates of violent crime are astronomically low compared to other areas of the state.

In addition to the low-crime, the weather is near-tropical and it is quite warm all year. Irvine is also home to many universities, and many large companies have their head offices in the city. A downside of living in Irvine, and many other parts of California, is the cost. It is a great place, but you will definitely have to pay a pretty penny to live there.

Manchester, New Hampshire

The largest city in New Hampshire is another one of the safest cities in America, especially for those who like a good mix of small-town living and urban amenities. Like many of the others on this list, this city features strong numbers both in terms of violent and property crime. While the crime briefly increased a little in the early 2010s, it has gone back dramatically down and this looks like it will continue.

The livability has to do with more than just crime, though. The city is also very affordable, has good education at all levels and features a good economy for both entrepreneurs and employees alike.

In conclusion, these are five of the safest cities in the USA for your home, property and family. You can always feel comfortable here and can rest assured that your chances of being victimized are low.
