It isn’t a secret that our world depends on electricity and we’ve all become dependent on a “plugged in” lifestyle. However, things happen, and sometimes power just shuts off for different reasons. Some of those reasons are innocent like a power blip, while others can be caused from natural disasters. So, like ice-cold sweet tea on a warm summer day, the Generac generator pairs well with solar panels

When inclement weather happens like a wet snowstorm in the middle of June in Wyoming, or a fast-moving hurricane along the coast of Louisiana, it’s important to have a backup energy supply like the Generac generator.

What is the Generac Generator?

Installing a storage solution like the Generac PWRcell with a solar energy system allows you to maintain a sustained power supply during day or night. As long as you have enough power stored from your solar panels from when the sun was shining, your generator will work during outages.

This is a modular and smart battery designed for your home. This battery is sized for a day-to-day use and designed to work with a solar panel system. The battery has operating modes designed to optimize usage for different situations. These situations could be in markets when electricity costs the most during peak hours (when the sun is not shining), or in markets where solar owners cannot export their extra electricity to a grid system.

How Does the Generac Generator Work?

These work with energy that has already been stored. To explain, when solar panels produce more electricity than you can use in your home, you can store the excess electricity in the battery system instead of sending it back to the grid. If there is a power outage and your panels aren’t producing enough electricity to meet your home’s needs, you can use the stored energy in your battery.

Some might think that having solar power will prevent a loss of electricity during a power outage. However, that just isn’t the case. When the sun hits a solar panel, the panels create a direct current (DC) electricity. Most homes run on alternating current (AC) energy, so solar investors can convert the direct current to alternate current. This way, the inverter works with the grid to run the electricity through your home and appliances.

Once the inverter transforms the DC energy to AC electricity, power is running through your home. From there, solar panels cannot act as a backup if your electricity goes out. Having a power outage is unpredictable and can be a major inconvenience if you work at home. Instead of hoping it doesn’t happen to you, purchase a Generac generator to make sure that even if there’s a power outage, your battery can sustain electricity in your house for the time being.

You also have an opportunity to see a detailed bill tracking and forecasting. This is through Generac’s energy monitoring system called PWRview. This mobile app also allows you to set daily or monthly goals for energy expenditure.

What Should You Know About the Generac PWRcell Generator?

When researching the PWRcell, there are some important metrics that you should keep in mind.

First, there are two very important metrics when comparing the PWRcell to other home storage options. First, you should consider the power. Power, which is measured in kilowatts or kW, determines the maximum amount of electricity that can be output at a single time. The other metric to consider is usable capacity. Usable capacity is measured in kilowatt-hours, or kWh, is a measure of the maximum amount of energy stored in the battery on a full charge.

The Generac PWRcell comes in four different models: the PWRcell 9, 12, 15, and 17.  For a full understanding of the different models, read their specifications sheets to explain.

Why Go Solar?

Having solar energy is a great resource for saving money, utilizing renewable resources, and keeping the Earth clean. There are also tax incentives for installing solar panels onto your household and you can even raise your home value by switching to solar. There is very little maintenance when it comes to solar panels. The hardest part of the process is the installation, but after that, you’re ready to go! Just make sure to keep debris and snow off your panels, and let them do the work to supply your household with electricity.

Switching to solar has never been easier, thanks to ONIT. From questions, concerns, free quotes, installation and repairs: ONIT is here to help you. To find out more information, visit our website or give us a call today at 1-833-433-0331.
